Last night six teams came together to compete for the Lion Foundation Young Enterprise Hawke’s Bay Regional Awards.  Congrats to all six finalists:

Give & Take – Hawke’s Bay Regional Prison, Youth Department
Jotter – Karamu High School
Kindling. – Karamu High School
Te Kete O Tangaroa – Havelock North High School
Tifamel – Havelock North High School

And the winner is; Give & Take – Hawke’s Bay Regional Prison, Youth Department.

Give & Take presented to a panel of judges which included Bill Roberts, Theresa OBrien and Bridget Cover.  The judges thought that Give and Take’s product was innovative, inspirational and proven to be profitable. Their pitch showed strength, courage and passion for their business.

Give & Take have created a “Fit 2 Go Kit” a quartet of products designed to provide greater health outcomes for rough sleepers in the community. The products bring warmth, hygiene and comfort, even in the toughest of conditions.

The Fit 2 Go Kit, includes a Poncho Blanket, Sleeping Mat, Back Pack and Hygiene Kit (toothbrush, soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner and face cloths) catering to those most in need and retails for $60.00.

How it works, an individual or organisation can purchase a Fit 2 Go full kit or induvial items from the kit, which is then distributed via Housing First or Nourish for Nil, who work closely with those in need.

At the end of the year, all profits will go to Nourish for Nil and the Lighthouse to further improve our target markets access to food.

In addition to providing comfort to rough sleepers, Give and Take had other goals in mind when coming up with the Fit 2 Go concept and that was To destigmatise society’s view on the homeless and pass on skills to one another via a tuakana-teina model and to create all of their products from recyclable and reusable material where possible.
