Kete: feeding kiwi innovation

Kete is Countdown’s brand-new business accelerator programme that represents more than $1 million of investment into the future of small businesses in Aotearoa.

The business world is difficult to navigate at the best of times, and there are huge challenges when you’re starting out. Countdown is really excited about this new way of supporting local businesses and especially those owned by people who often face extra hurdles in the business world.

With Kete, the aim is to support five small and diverse New Zealand businesses to achieve their own version of success through a 12 month programme specially designed to make a meaningful difference to each business.

Up to five business will be chosen to be a part of Kete, and will have access to a package of support and resources worth over $250,000 each including:

  • $20,000 cash grant to upscale their business
  • Guaranteed ranging on Countdown shelves for the length of the programme
  • Mentorship and support from across the Countdown business
  • Access to Countdown customer insights
  • Product development and manufacturing support
  • Networking and development events and opportunities
  • Branding, marketing and public relations support

Kete is foccused on helping encourage a more diverse supplier base in Aotearoa, including business owned by Māori, Pasifika, youth, women, LGBTQIA+ people and people with disabilities. Across the business Countdown wants greater diversity – it improves thinking, innovation and brings new approaches and solutions.

To make Kete a success, Countdown really want to hear from business owners, innovators and entrepreneurs across Aotearoa doing all sorts of fantastic mahi.
