On 1 April 2020, EIT – along with the other 15 Institutes of Technologies and Polytechnics and the Industry Training Organisations – will be merged into a new national institute. EIT will become a subsidiary organisation of the new institute.
The NZ Institute of Skills and Technology Establishment Board recently announced the preferred name for the new institute – Pūkenga Aotearoa. Pūkenga means skills or expertise, and Pūkenga Aotearoa is supposed to cover the mastery of skills. In a nutshell, it describes a skills-based institute with Aotearoa at its heart.
