We want to make sure you know about the support available for you and your employees during this difficult time for New Zealand businesses.

Some of the ways we can help employers include:

  • the 8-week Wage Subsidy Extension, you can apply for this until 1 September 2020 – if you haven’t already
  • the new 2-week Resurgence Wage Subsidy, you can apply from 1 pm on Friday 21 August 2020
  • the Leave Support Scheme for employees who, under the Ministry of Health guidelines, can’t work.

Check the Work and Income website for details of each payment, so you can apply for the subsidy that’s right for your situation.

If the details you give us in your application are correct and match those held by Inland Revenue, it will usually be paid within 24 hours.

The Employers’ section of our website also has information about how we can help with recruitment, as well as support and advice if you need to consider reducing staff.

The new Connected.govt.nz website is a one-stop-shop for businesses and individuals to find the support and advice available from across government in employment, education and training.

Ways we can help people who’ve lost their job or reduced their hours

We know this is a very stressful time for many people in our community and businesses are making every effort to keep their employees.

If you find yourself in the hard position of making redundancies, there are a number of ways we can help people who are affected.

Below is some information you can share if needed.

Up to 12 weeks of payments to help with living costs after a COVID-19-related job loss between 1 March and 30 October 2020. You can apply up to 13 November.

We can help with job search, training or with the costs of getting started in a new job.

Our online guide ‘Check what you might get’ helps people find support available to them and their family. People don’t need to be on a benefit to use the guide or to get support.
