Kind Light - YES East Coast Company of the Year

Hawke’s Bay Chamber of Commerce proudly presented the Young Enterprise East Coast Regional Finals last week.

The region’s top six finalists went head-to-head to pitch their businesses one final time. A panel of independent judges observed, asked questions and scored the teams, the final scores then going towards the teams overal scores for 2021.

  • Kelly Annand (Deputy Mayor, Central Hawke’s Bay District Council)

Best at Farmers Market Award

  • Runner up = Burnt Coffee (Woodford House)
  • Winner = Kind Light (Taradale High School)


Innovation and Social Impact Award

  • Runner up = Student Army (Napier Girls High School)
  • Winner = Fuero (Havelock North High School)


Sales and Marketing Award

  • Runner up = Te Panga Pai (Havelock North High School)
  • Winner = Killa Vintage (Woodford House)


Māori and Pacifika Company of the Year (First Equal)

  • FOBelicious (Hastings Christian School)
  • Trio Treat (Flaxmere College TPU)


YES East Coast Entrepreneur of the Year

  • Runner up = Quaid Crawford (Hahana Candles – Hastings Boys High School)
  • Winner = Ottyleah Te Houkamau (Trio Treat – Flaxmere College TPU)


YES East Coast Company of the Year (supreme award for 2021)

  • Runner up = Blossom (Taradale High School) & Wooly Bones (Karamu High School)
  • Winner = Kind Light (Taradale High School)


Three out of thirteen National Excellence Awards were awarded to East Coast teams – an amazing achievement out of over 3000 students participating in the Young Enterprise Scheme nationwide.
